Pastoral Care

Education providers in New Zealand play an important role to ensure that International Students are properly looked after, this is known as pastoral care. To support this, the New Zealand government has developed the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016, also known as the Code of Practice.

The Code of Practice sets the standards of care that you can expect as an International Student. It also provides a procedure for complaints that you can follow if you have concerns about the treatment you receive from your education provider or an agent of the provider.

Immigration & Visa

International students need to meet the requirements of Immigration New Zealand and must have a valid student visa to study in New Zealand. You can get answers to all your questions on the Immigration New Zealand website, or you can get in touch with a Licensed Immigration Advisor.

STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS
Students who are under 18 years of age must provide a guarantee of accommodation on programme commencement from the college. This can be provided once the tuition and accommodation fees have been received by the college. Immigration New Zealand will not issue a student visa unless the guarantee of accommodation is provided.

STUDENTS ABOVE THE AGE OF 18 YEARS
Students who are over 18 years of age do not need to secure accommodation prior to arriving in New Zealand, but it is advisable.

APPLYING FOR YOUR VISA

To obtain a student visa, you have to be enrolled in an NZQA approved course at an educational institution that has been accredited to offer that course. You can apply for your visa online with Immigration New Zealand or get in contact with a Licensed Immigration Advisor. For the students who are already in New Zealand before the commencement of the programme, please get in contact with our marketing team on 09-320 3236 who will be able to guide you with the steps further.

Working in New Zealand

WORKING WHILE STUDYING

On a student visa, you may be able to work part-time up to 20 hours per week. It is mandatory for you to check your visa – it will show if, as well as when, you can work while you are studying in New Zealand.

Please note that in order to work in New Zealand, you must register with the Inland Revenue Department and obtain an IRD number.

You can find out about wages and working conditions on Employment New Zealand website.

WORKING AFTER COURSE FINISHES

When you have finished your study you will need to apply for Work Visa if you intend to work. Please get in contact with Immigration New Zealand or a Licensed Immigration Advisor for more information on this.
